Assalamualaikum,
Dear Friends,
When we experience hunger during Ramadan we
become more mindful of all those who do not have
enough food to eat because of poverty and
depravation. And so it is during this time of
year that we turn our thoughts to our brothers
and sisters in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and
the many other places where the people face
hunger and hardship.
As you may know, more and more families in
Palestine are finding it increasingly difficult
to make ends meet as international financial
support has been completely blocked since early
this year, and Israel is keeping back all taxes
collected on behalf of the Palestinian
Authority.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians do not
know where their next meal will come from. The
West Bank and Gaza are in a state of emergency.
According to the United Nations, 79% of the
population in Gaza lives in poverty. With
severe shortages of water and food, and dismal
healthcare, poor Palestinian families have
nowhere else to turn to except to their friends
and supporters abroad.
We appeal to all our Muslim friends to consider
paying their zakat into our Trust Fund for
Palestinian refugee children in Lebanon who
surely qualify to receive zakat.
Zakat is given to those Muslims who are really
in need through being:
1.
The poor; in order to ease the pain caused by
their poverty.
2. The
destitute who lack the tools of their trade; so
they can
support themselves.
3. Those
who have real sympathy for Islam; to encourage
them to
accept it.
4. Those
who have fallen into debt due to necessity; to
help them
from it.
5. Those
who in travelling purely for Islam's sake
experience great
difficulty.
6. Any
prisoner of war or person in bondage; to buy
their freedom.
7. Those
collecting the Zakat; to covering the expenses
of doing so.
8. Those
involved in the defence and spread of Islam. “
