The Malaysian
Social Research Institute (MSRI), a non-governmental and non profit
organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, working on research on societal
issues and with a specific humanitarian programme in support of the
Palestinian people, is looking for an eligible candidate to fill the
position as Programme Officer. Qualified women candidates are
especially encouraged to apply. Commencing in early February 2010.
Main Responsibilities
- -
Develop
and maintain new programme content.
- -
Develop
strategic plan for advocacy on the issue of Palestinian refugees in
Malaysia.

Assist in administration and organizing programmes and functions.

Assist the team’s research and campaigning activities by gathering
and managing
information related to the issue of the campaign, internet
searches, and media
monitoring.
Required skills
- At
least 3 years of experience in working on human rights and
humanitarian.
- Good
general computer literacy.
-
Basic administration knowledge and experience.
- Good
inter-personal communication skills and ability.
-
Excellent communication and writing skills in English / Bahasa
Malaysia.

Familiarity with UN Human Rights System.

Experience in research and evaluation.

Interest in societal and humanitarian issues.
- Able
to work independently as well as in a team.
- Have
experience in advancing human rights campaign and activities.

Ability to build and maintain coalitions among diverse groups of
people.
- High
standards of integrity, honesty, flexibility and resilience.

Ability to suggest changes to ways of working to improve efficiency.

Ability to manage a heavy and varied workload effectively, including
managing competing
demands and to maintain high levels of both
accuracy
and output.
Education
background
- Advance
university degree, preferably in social studies,
human rights and international relations and other
disciplines related to human
rights.
- A relevant
combination of both academic and work
experience.
