Topic: Loss, Silence and Violence: The human cost of political conflict in Kashmir
Born in Kashmir, Mrs. Sumayya graduated in Sociology & Anthropology from the International Islamic University Malaysia. She has lived in Malaysia for over 6 years now. She has lived most of her life in the violence and conflict in Kashmir, and has witnessed its impact on society from very close. The shattering impact of political conflict has disturbed her deeply, as well as moved her to make meaningful contributions in all situations of conflict. During the winter of 2008-2009, Mrs. Sumayya was in Kashmir, and briefly worked with an NGO on a project about the human development scenario in Kashmir. Most recently, she worked at MSRI on a project dealing with the lives of Palestinian refugees in Malaysia.
